The Scope of GISHW’s Mission

at the Osaka Expo 2025 and Beyond

This document outlines the core objectives of the Global Initiative for Safety, Health, and Well-being at the EXPO2025 and BEYOND (GISHW) and how they align with the ambitions of the Expo’s theme, “Designing a Future Society for Our Lives". Significantly, for the first time in its history, the Expo will feature an event focused on worker Safety, Health, and Well-being (SHW), highlighting its commitment to these vital goals.

Our Message

GISHW’s foundation lies in ensuring the SHW of workers, a mission that extends far beyond the workplace as its ripple effect gradually extends to families, friends and colleagues, employers, companies, communities, and eventually, the entire global population. The message is simple: by prioritizing workers’ SHW, we are prioritizing people and society, and ultimately, contributing to a healthier, more resilient global population. This idea is essential as we align ourselves with the Expo’s central theme of creating a future society where no one is left behind.
Humans are inherently social beings who rely on each other to thrive. We all play interconnected roles in our communities. Therefore, ensuring the safety and health of workers is not just a personal concern but a vital factor that influences society and the world as a whole. Highlighting this within the context of the Expo is a powerful opportunity to elevate awareness and emphasize the critical importance of SHW@Work.

Engaging Collaboration

The Expo’s concept, "People’s Living Lab," envisions a space where people worldwide will not only observe but actively co-create our future society, bringing together global knowledge and technologies to address the critical issues facing mankind.

In line with this vision, GISHW aims to create a platform where Occupational Safety, Health, and Well-being (OSHW) professionals can exchange insights, experiences, and expertise. This platform would not only serve as a collaborative forum for experts but also foster interactions between OSHW specialists, non-OSHW professionals, and the public, co- creating broader engagement and mutual learning.
For example, the Expo being held in Japan, a leader in technological innovation, provides a unique opportunity to integrate cutting-edge technologies like AI and robotics into working environments, offering fresh perspectives on enhancing SHW@Work.
Additionally, those involved in forming international consensus and engaging in standardization can become more attuned to the global movement towards SHW@Work, helping to further spread these essential values worldwide.
Furthermore, it offers a chance for business leaders to learn about and embrace the significance of SHW@Work, as "happy and healthy workers do good work," thereby boosting productivity and enhancing corporate image. These ambitions align with the legacy that GISHW aims to leave through the Expo, and we believe that this is the true essence of co-creation.

Looking Forward

As GISHW continues to build on its strong foundation in SHW@Work, our vision extends beyond to embrace a broader societal mission. The Expo is a unique opportunity to bring SHW@Work into the spotlight for a global audience.
By engaging not only with those already within our field, but also with new sectors and industries, we can help them see the broader societal benefits of SHW@Work—benefits that stretch across industries, geographies, and cultures. Through open collaboration and communication, we can make SHW@Work a global priority and, in doing so, contribute to the well-being of All.
We are eager to move forward with this vision and to share our excitement for what lies ahead on this journey. Your expertise and insights will be invaluable as we refine our approach and messaging, ensuring that GISHW’s voice is heard loud and clear at Expo 2025 and beyond.
