Key Note Speech I:
In this key note speech, we will talk about ISO’s contribution to the achievement of the SDGs.
In particular, safety, health and wellbeing in aging society.
Key Note Speech II:
In this key note speech, we will talk about IEC's contribution to the achievement of the SDGs.
In particular, wellbeing in the context of collaborative safety (Safety 2.0) and technology.
The principle of “Safety, health & well-being for working people” has recently become crucially important for the enterprises under the current societal circumstance that the workforce reduction and the working context changes have rapidly progressed. One of the efficient tools to contribute to this principle is the concept of “Collaborative Safety” which could lead and control the human/machine to a safer side after detecting risks and making alert, by way of real-time risk communication among human, machines and their environment, and which could supply ultimately the human with the psychological safety (ANSHIN).
Core technology of collaborative safety (Safety2.0) is the one that could release the human from their working burden and threat by the maximum utilization of the latest digital technologies such as AI used robotics. This session will discuss about possible applicability of AI and other ICTs in collaborative safety for standardization, based on the brief introductions on the outcomes of several R&D activities and of the progress of international standardizations.
For the purpose of efficient and sustainable operation of newly introduced system of collaborative safety measures on site, it is equally important, in addition to the technology aspects referred in Panel 1-1, to establish holistically the technology management, personnel qualification and their rule making mechanism. Especially it is quite essential to detect the new potential risk when the system equipped with new digital technology is installed and operated, and when outdoor worker’s condition is influenced by the recent meteorological environment changes.
This session will discuss about the future standardization needs and applicability of the collaborative safety measures to ISO45001/45003 OHSMS and possible measurable effect by the introduction of holistic measures based on the unique actions employed in several industrial sectors, mainly focusing on the construction and electronics sector.
If the guidelines for improving wellbeing are standardized internationally, countries around the world will be able to improve their own policies or develop new policies by referring to these international standards.
These guidelines shall not be written in an idealistic way. Various policies to improve people's wellbeing have already been implemented in countries around the world. By collecting and analysing examples of these policies, it will become clear which specific policies each country should work on. If specific policies are published in the international standard guidelines, it will be easier for each country to refer to them.
Regarding occupational health and safety, ISO established TC 283 in 2013. International standards on occupational health and safety have been developed one after another and are being used by countries around the world as guidelines for improving workplace health and safety.
Guidelines for improving people's wellbeing in aging societies have also been formulated. ISO/TC 314 is in charge, and the first related international standard was published in 2024. In addition, the development of a collection of case studies from around the world has also begun.
These wellbeing guidelines advocate the use of technologies. Digital technologies have made it possible to collect biometric data of persons and environmental data on their surroundings, and these data can now be used to improve workplace health and safety and/or support person's daily lives. International standardization of these technologies is a responsibility of IEC.
In this session, we will look back on the overall international standardization activities related to wellbeing, including activities related to the use of technologies, and discuss the future of international standardization for wellbeing.
